Software provider SPSS Inc. disclosed in a Monday regulatory filing that its chairman and co-founder is claiming ownership of the Chicago company's name, and has offered to sell the trademark to SPSS for $20 million.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Workstream Inc. said Monday it received an unsolicited offer from a U.S.-based payroll business to determine the viability of a merger between the two companies. Any deal will be subject to the standard conditions including the completion of due diligence, regulatory approval, shareholder approval, board approval and the required valuations, Workstream said. Shares last traded at about 65 cents each.

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- London Scottish Bank said it's going to take 22 million pounds ($44 million) before tax in additional impairment charges for the year to Oct. 31, due to customer account balances in arrears. That will lead to 13 million pound shortfall in regulatory capital as of Jan. 1, which may lead it to restrict new lending volumes and not pay a final dividend.
